Boundary Crossing in and after the Bio-Tech-Med-Nutrition Interdisciplinary Team Training (BITT Challenge)
This spring, a new boundary crossing elective for MSc Nutrition and Health (MNH) students is running for the first time. Students who participate in the Bio-Tech-Med-Nutrition Interdisciplinary Team Training (BITT Challenge) can take the BITT Learning Journey course in parallel and subsequent to the BITT Challenge. The BITT Learning Journey is designed to capture on the inter- and transdisciplinary learning experiences of the BITT Challenge and primarily focused on developing BC competencies. (Note for WUR readers: the BITT challenge, the BITT learning journey and two MOS modules together form a new AMC variant for MNH students.)
22 students took up the challenge with the goal of developing as a 'broker' in the world of nutrition and health. Amongst others, students designed boundary crossing workshops for a self-selected target group and taught them to fellow students who played the target group. Currently, students are preparing for their interviews with various stakeholders who might be interested in the outcomes of the BITT challenge, either it be doctors, patients, scientific experts, industry partners etc. Exploring the societal impact of an innovation puts students more than they expect in the role of ‘translater’ of disciplinary knowledge towards its societal use.
