Thesis subject

Decomposition of dead wood.

In collaboration with Utrecht University & Free University Amsterdam
As part of a world-wide (45-site) experimental project (managed from Dresden University) on deadwood decomposition, one Natural Forest and one managed forest are compared in the North of the Veluwe, including forest reserve Speulderbos. This is done with a specific experimental setup which allows certain insect groups to colonize and decompose wood.

Method: for this research you would need to do fieldwork, lab-work and data-analysis. For the work a lot of data is gathered, and a lot of samples need to be administered, so a working in a clear, calm and structured workflow is necessary to do the internship. Several side-projects can be connected to the research with creativity and some prior knowledge of forest ecology is necessary.
