How can we learn with nature, rather than about nature?
Video & interview with Reineke van Tol
Learning with Nature' is a conversation with Reineke van Tol, lecturer and researcher at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, whose work focuses on human-nature relationships. She shares her insights into relational and embodied learning outside of the classroom, and what this might mean for how we engage with nature as a subject, rather than just learning about nature as an object. We witness a group of students as they experience the radically transformative potential of learning outdoors, as part of a course run by the university.
Most students learn only about nature inside lecture rooms and behind computer screens. How can learning also be an embodied experience? How can we learn with nature, in nature, through nature and for nature? What might this mean for how we care for our world in an era of anthropogenic crisis?
A special thank you to Koen Arts, lecturer and researcher at Wageningen University, and the students on the 'Anthropology of Basic Nature Skills' course.
