Nature-based Adaptation Pathways for Climate Resilient and Safe Food systems
With the regional strategy from WUR, we want to contribute to the sustainable development of areas – whereby we work together with the stakeholders in the area on the long-term perspective. So it's not primarily about a project – more about working together in the long term. Goals and ambitions in and of an area are linked to visions, concepts and knowledge from knowledge-based research.
How can we apply knowledge developed in the KB program Circular & Climate Neutral in the Achterhoek region? From mid-2021, WUR has started developing the Regional Strategy, in which Wageningen wants to work on knowledge development and implementation in collaboration with various organizations in a region. There is a lot of energy from the Achterhoek on the themes of agriculture, circularity, climate and economy – and this is reflected in various pilots, projects and a widely developed and supported vision (including Vision for Circular Agriculture in the Achterhoek) from the area for the future. At the same time, people struggle with integrating the various substantive tracks and are looking for opportunities to generate impact.
In this project we will enter into discussions and collaboration with various organizations in the area to explore and elaborate two substantive tracks in agriculture. In the first track, we will work on circular agriculture from the soil as a basis and with attention to climate, water and revenue models in which scaling up from farm level to landscape level is important. In a second track, we will look specifically at the emissions from dairy farming and the (new or not yet explored well enough) measures or adjustments at a number of dairy farms with the aim of further reducing emissions. Knowledge and expertise from the KB program Circular & Climate Neutral, represented by WUR researchers in collaboration with the local network of organizations, plays an important role in both tracks.
