Summary

Climate services provide vital information to help society adapt to climate change, but trainings on how to use these services often remain too technical or one-size-fits-all. This PhD research at Wageningen University developed a new approach to designing climate services training that is more practical, inclusive, and user-focused. Using the Copernicus Climate Change Service as a case study, the research explored how different groups—scientists, advisors, and decision-makers—learn and apply climate information in their daily work. The outcome is a set of design principles that guide the creation of training courses tailored to diverse needs and contexts. By placing education at the heart of climate services, this work ensures that climate knowledge becomes more usable, collaborative, and impactful for building a climate-resilient future.
