Great interest in meadow bird knowledge day 2020
More than 200 meadow bird lovers found their way to Joure on February 27 for the Meadow Bird Knowledge Day 2020. The purpose of this day was to share knowledge about the meadow bird. The participants were offered an interesting and varied program, in which various topics related to optimal pasture management were discussed.
The day consisted of plenary lectures and partial sessions on various themes and research results. The offer was very varied. For example, Pieter Winsemius told something about the black-tailed godwit attack plan and Kars Veling of the Butterfly Foundation zoomed in on the number of insects still present in Friesland. Attention was also paid to the Koeien & Kruiden project, which focuses on growing and feeding herb-rich grassland. Theun Vellinga explained the 'meadow bird-friendly stable'.
In addition, a Pieter Sjoerdsma from Staatbosbeheer spoke about the current project in which cooperation in nature restoration is central. Herman Steeghs shared his experiences with field bird management in practice.
