In memoriam Leandre Bulambo

This week, Leandre Bulambo passed away peacefully in his sleep. He joined the chairgroup Economic and Environmental History(RHI) in 1994, having fled from Congo. He dedicated almost thirty years to our department and retired at the end of 2022. Throughout this time, he provided invaluable support to our group. Never did we call upon him in vain. Our researchers conducted and continue to conduct their studies based on intricate source materials, and without Leandre's contribution, such research would not have been possible.

Leandre was one of those who visited the Leeuwenborch every day, carrying an umbrella (always prepared for any weather), often humming a tune from Huub Oosterhuis. He was a forceful, cheerful person who actively contributed to the positive atmosphere within the department. His fundamental optimism allowed him to approach new situations with confidence. Many people from the Leeuwenborch will remember him – he easily engaged in conversation with everyone.

His passing has come too soon. We extend our heartfelt condolences and strength to his children Falia, Eliane, Yoan, as well as to Olivia and Cornelis.
